Monday Values: Generosity
Releasing space, power, or control so something larger can grow.
I’ve been wanting to write a book for a long time. When my infertility journey began, I started journaling and blogging, shouting angrily from the rooftops, even if no one else was listening. I thought my first book would be my story.
A couple years ago, my spiritual mentor, Gina asked me to work on a project with her. That project grew from 15 hours of interviews into a book and eventually into a movement. When I first said yes, I thought this would finally be the place to tell my story. But the project came alive and had other plans.
My role in this book is not to be the loudest voice. I am the interviewer, the questioning seeker. I am the one who helps the reader feel grounded, as if they are sitting in conversation with their own spiritual mentor. Gina brings deep wisdom; I bring curiosity and honesty. Together, our voices create something fuller than either of us could write alone.
That’s generosity too. Letting go of the need for the spotlight, releasing the grasp I had on “this has to be about me.” What I’ve found in return is confidence, collaboration, and clarity. My own book—the one about surviving infertility—is still in me. And when I write it, I’ll carry the skills and courage this partnership has given me.
Generosity often means trusting that your voice will have its moment. It means allowing space for others to shine, knowing that you’re growing in the process too.
